With the exception of milk cartons and asceptic packaging like juice and soy milk boxes (think containers for liquids), cardboard items in the fridge or freezer belong in the trash. They are chemically treated differently, so as to not break down when wet, and for the same reason cannot breakdown in the recycling process which uses water to repulp cardboard.
