Propane Tanks
About
Disposable and refillable propane tanks are not collected through your municipal curbside garbage or recycling program. The problem with these tanks is that they are pressurized and can cause injury if they explode. These tanks are never completely “empty” and therefore should not be placed in the garbage as they could contain enough fuel to explode when compressed in a garbage truck or at the landfill. There are private companies and municipal recycling depots that accept disposable and refillable propane tanks for recycling. Contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline for more information on recycling propane tanks in your area.
