About

Books in good condition are accepted by most charities, senior’s centers, hospitals or libraries. University and college textbooks are accepted at most university or college bookstores through their book buy-back program. For slightly older textbooks, contact your local Rotary Club to see if they are appropriate to send overseas. Contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline for a list of organizations accepting reusable books/textbooks.

Books that are no longer usable can be recycled. Paperback books are accepted through your municipal recycling program with other mixed waste paper items. Hardcover books contain glue in the cover and spine that make them difficult to recycle. For these books, tear or cut out the pages in the middle and recycle as mixed waste paper. The remaining cover and spine can be disposed of with your household garbage.
