Some municipalities collect Christmas trees at the curbside for composting during the first few weeks of January, while others permit residents to drop their trees off for recycling at selected recycling depots or landfill/transfer stations throughout the month. Some groups and organizations also host tree chipping events. Contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline for options available in your community.
Please remember to remove all decorations, tinsel, stands and plastic bags from the tree and if possible, buy your Christmas tree from a reputable tree farm. An alternative to Christmas trees that must be cut down, consider getting a small potted tree that you can continue to take care of past the holiday season.
