About

There are many ways to re-use existing paper, or avoid using paper altogether. Use the blank side of one-sided paper before recycling it. Instead of paper towels or paper napkins, use cloth napkins, tea towels and dish cloths. Re-use envelopes by placing labels over the old addresses. Instead of paper lunch bags, use lunch boxes or reusable cloth bags. Think of imaginative alternatives to gift-wrap, like re-using colorful boxes, gift bags or fabric. If you have to use paper, then buying recycled paper products closes the loop" and helps maintain a healthy market for materials collected for recycling. Mixed paper can be recycled in your blue recycling container (if your household is served by Iowa City curbside recycling). This includes white and colored paper, junk mail, greeting cards, envelopes, and file folders. For more details on curbside recycling, visit: http://www.icgov.org/default/?id=1611. Mixed paper can also be recycled at these 24-hour Johnson County drop-off sites: * Iowa City Landfill & Recycling Center (3900 Hebl Ave) * East Side Recycling Center (2401 Scott Blvd SE) * City Carton Recycling (3 East Benton St) * Hy-Vee (1201 North Dodge St) * Hy-Vee Drugstore (310 North 1st Ave) * Eastdale Plaza (First Ave and Lower Muscatine).
